Our world is changing, at a rapid pace. It is increasingly becoming a “global village”, characterized by coherence and connectedness. This now, more than ever, requires a different way of looking, thinking and acting, but also a different language, the language of system consciousness.

A Learning Organization is characterized by three pillars:

  • Purpose: clarity about what you want to achieve (tools: mission, values and vision)

  • Being able to discuss the gap between the intention, the wish and the current reality (tool: compassion);

  • What is it about? Being able to distinguish between main and secondary issues. Understanding complexity (tools: sharp distinguishing ability, systems thinking).

In this Masterclass we work on the third pillar, understanding complexity. If you do not understand complexity, all action is activism.

What knowledge, skills and attitudes do I need for this? What insights into myself and the system help me to feel comfortable with NOT knowing so that I can learn optimally?

In this Masterclass Systems Thinking we develop skills in observing, thinking and acting using the system tools. We learn the language that goes with it and reduce the complex reality to the main issues that are the levers in the short and long term. 

We work on the attitude to perceive, think and act more systemically.

Purpose of the masterclass:

  • Understanding the difference between a collection and a system;

  • Understanding the essence of a system;

  • Translating (into systems language) a complex issue into a coherent system loop;

  • Working on your own practice. Translating the complex reality in your own organization using the system language

Yields:

  • Awareness of your own situation and the development you want to achieve;

  • Access to tools such as the behavior pattern graph, the relationship circle, causal loops, the iceberg, the archetypes of systems thinking;

  • Skills to use tools appropriately in your own learning process, in relation to others and, in the NOW, operationalized in your own case;

  • Internalization in yourself and operationalization of development in your system of the route you want to realize in the coming period.

The Masterclass Systems Thinking is provided by Guus Geisen. He is the specialist at Stichting Organisatieleren when it comes to systems thinking. 

He is an author and has written several books focused on learning in organizations. He has gained a lot of knowledge and experience in practice, especially in the field of education
